Kate

Kate

Hometown: Scarborough, ON

Major/Minor/Certificate: Bachelor of Arts, Major in Psychology, Minor in Math

chose UofG because: I got a different feeling than other Universities when I received my acceptance package in the mail. When I visited in the Spring, the campus had so many green spaces and ivy covered buildings, and it was just the right size that I could walk everywhere on campus.

Advice for Future Gryphons: Say yes to every invite you get in the first few weeks, you'll never know what kind of fun you'll have at an event or what new friends you might meet at a dining hall. It's easy to be intimidated by all the exciting things going on but saying yes to offers is a great way to meet people and get integrated into the community (the best part about Guelph!)

Fun Fact About Me: I know all 8 and a half minutes of American Pie by Don McLean!

Katie

Hometown: Oakville, ON

Major/Minor/Etc: Bachelor of Arts, political science + minor in criminal justice and public policy

I chose U of G because: I toured campus and fell in love! I had a gut feeling that Guelph was going to be the place I called my home away from home.

Advice for Future Gryphons: Don’t be afraid to try new things! I sampled classes from different majors and decided to switch to Political Science after my first year. It was the best decision I made!

Fun Fact About Me:  I’ve travelled to 5 continents and over 25 countries! I love vacation planning and can’t wait for my next trip!

From:  Burlington, Ontario

Graduated with a: Bachelor of Applied Science, family studies and human development + psychology minor

I chose U of G because: I felt right at home the minute I stepped on campus for a tour. The luscious greenery, winding walkways, and friendly faces confirmed what I already knew: I was meant to be a Gryphon.

Free advice: Savour ever minute because the years fly by! It’s not every day that you get to be surrounded by thousands of inspired individuals.

Fun Fact About Me: I have skydived, bungee jumped, and rode in a hot air balloon – what should I try next?!

Alex

Alex

From: Burlington, Ontario

Graduated with a: Bachelor of Commerce, management

I chose U of G because: I felt right at home after doing a campus tour and quickly fell in love with the music scene in the city. The lush green, medium sized campus really makes it feel like a tight knit community with familiar faces.

Free Advice:  Attend events and introduce yourself. You’d be amazed at how supportive the Guelph community can be.

Fun Fact About Me: I can play 11 instruments!

Janeva

From:  Simcoe, Ontario

Graduated with a: Bachelor of Commerce, government, economics, and management + Certificate in Leadership

I chose U of G because: I instantly fell in love with the green, warm and welcoming campus on a campus tour in grade 12.

Advice for Future Gryphons: Get involved in university – join a club, do intramurals, go to professor’s office hours… you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.

Fun Fact About Me: My background is Italian and the City of Guelph has some of the best Italian restaurants I’ve ever been to! You have to try Buon Gusto or La Cucina in Downtown Guelph.

Alicia

Hometown: Guelph!

Major/Minor/Certificate: Bachelor of Commerce, food and agricultural business co-op + minor in sustainable business

I chose U of G because I really identified with the emphasis on sustainability and environmentalism. I was interested in community development and food security, so Guelph really felt like the best possible place to explore that.

Advice for Future Gryphons: Get involved! Start exploring your interests and building communities in your first year - you won't regret it! Visit the EL Hub or Student Volunteer Connections when you get the chance.

Fun Fact About Me: I'm a twin!

Taylor

Taylor

Hometown: Pefferlaw, Ontario

Major/Minor/Certificate: Bachelor of Arts and Sciences – (minors) family and child studies and neuroscience

I chose UofG because: of the community and how the campus made me feel, along with the specialized program – BAS (which set me up for a Masters in Occupational Therapy, which I completed in Scotland)

Advice for Future Gryphons: try new things! I really put myself out there in my first year and tried out for quidditch team, even though I didn’t make it, it was a lot of fun trying out! I participated in a residence hall council for 3 of my years and loved being involved! It really made me feel at home and part of the community. I didn’t think I was ‘athletic’ enough for intramurals – which was completely false, and I ended up playing on a ‘just for fun’ team that switched sports every week in my last year, and it was a blast!

Fun Fact About Me: I’ve travelled to over 20 countries and did 10 of them in 7 weeks with my brother, who is also a Gryphon.
