Minors @ U of G: What You Need to Know
Posted: Wednesday, March 8, 2017 - 15:32
Minors? You want ‘em – we got ‘em.
Minors Are Not Mandatory
Mandatory to declare a minor? No. Are they cool? Yes.
U of G Offers 50+ Minors
We offer you minors in a range of areas, from the Arts, to Business to the Environment. You have so much choice when it comes to complimenting your degree.
You’ll gain an introduction to another discipline, whether it’s for your post-grad career plans or simply because you want to travel and learn another language. Whatever the reason, we got you.
You Select Your Minor in 1st Year
To declare a minor, you’ll meet with your program counsellor within the first weeks of your first year. They give you the info you need on how to structure your schedule, and plan your time here at Guelph.
Some Degree’s Don’t Allow Minors
Bachelor of Bio-Resource Management and Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science students are not able to declare minors.
Why? Both of these programs are quite structured, leaving you little room for the electives you will need to take.
Note: minors are also only allowed in an Honour’s degree program.
FACT: We Have Some New minors
Arts, Culture & Heritage Management, along with Creative Writing have both been introduced as minors beginning in Fall 2017.
Lawrence Hill also joined the U of G community last summer, and YOU KNOW he’ll be teaching you Creative Writing.
We’d also like to draw your attention to the minor that was introduced last year: Media & Cinema Studies. We think that’s prett-y cool.
