What attracted you to the University of Guelph?

Since I was unable to visit campus prior to moving into residence, I relied mostly on the pictures of campus I could find online or on social media. The campus looked beautiful and welcoming, and also offered many clubs and organizations that were of interest to me.

What attracted you to your program at U of G?

In addition to the interesting courses taken in Animal Biology which really got my attention, I had intentions of applying to vet school after undergrad and I was looking for a program which would allow me to complete all of the prerequisites required for the application.

During my undergraduate degree, I completed courses offered by the Department of Population Medicine, which sparked my interest in Epidemiology, Public Health, and research in general.

What is something COOL that you’ve learned from your program/studies so far?

I’ve really enjoyed courses where you get to apply the knowledge that you’re learning instead of just memorizing things, and in Epidemiology we do just that to assess disease outbreaks and other public health related concerns.

What has been (or is) your favorite course in your program?

In undergrad, I really enjoyed being able to take a research course where I assisted in conducting research with a graduate student, completed lab work, and completed several writing assignments. This was a great hands on opportunity for me to get a taste of what grad school would be like and is one reason why I decided to pursue graduate studies.

What are you most excited about this year?

I’m really looking forward to getting to know the other students in my department as well as get involved with all the organizations and clubs specific to my program!

What are your (current) post-graduate plans, or goals?

Currently I hope to pursue a career in Public Health or Epidemiology; what that entails exactly is still up in the air.

Best piece of advice you wish you could have given yourself in Grade 12.

Be open minded and willing to try new things… It might feel like you have to have it all “figured out” right now, but your plans will change and that is okay! Stepping out of your comfort zone can help to find new experiences that you won’t want to miss out on.

#FunFact About Yourself.

I hadn’t been to Canada until the day I moved into residence in 1st year! This sounds crazy but I’ve completed my undergrad and am starting my MSc, so I’d say it worked out well and I made the best decision of my life.
