What attracted you to the University of Guelph?

Initially my program, but the beautiful campus, sense of community, and gryphon pride that I experienced during a tour I took in grade 12 really solidified my decision to come here.

What attracted you to your program at U of G?

I’ve always wanted to work with animals and seeing the amazing opportunities that could come from this program got me excited to be a part of it.

What is something COOL that you’ve learned from your program/studies so far?

Something interesting I learned was that pigs are one of the top 10 smartest animals in the world, and can solve puzzles, mazes, and most other challenges you throw their way. They also sing to their babies and dream just like us!

What has been (or is) your favorite course in your program?

So far, my favourite course has been ANSC*1210, Principles of Animal Care and Welfare. I really loved learning about the different behaviours animals can exhibit based on their welfare and how to feed, house, and treat animals properly to ensure they live the best life possible. I actually enjoyed this course so much that it helped me realize I want to do a Masters degree in animal welfare and behaviour!

What are you most excited about this year?

This year I’m excited to have more program specific courses directly relating to animals, instead of the more general sciences.

What are your (current) post-graduate plans, or goals?

After completing my undergraduate degree, I hope to go to grad school to work with either cattle or swine, and do welfare-related research. After that, hopefully a job that includes working hands-on with animals every day to help better their lives.

Best piece of advice you wish you could have given yourself in Grade 12

I think looking back, I would’ve told myself to get more experience with animals sooner, but also that I shouldn’t stress too much. My future is bright and I’m going to get some amazing opportunities that I would’ve never thought possible!

#FunFact About Yourself

Musical theatre is my favourite hobby and you can usually catch me singing throughout the day (including to the cows when I work, haha).
