Discover the Endless Possibilities of a Bachelor of Science Degree!

Apply to U of G today and dive into the sciences at at North America’s largest integrated teaching and research facility, the Summerlee Science Complex.

Our robust Bachelor of Science (BSc) program boasts 27 majors – 15 of which offer the option to complete a co-op. The goals of this program is universal across each major: to enhance your problem solving, critical thinking and communication skills, while strengthening your knowledge and application of scientific methods and techniques.

So what majors do we offer, anyway? It’s easiest if we break these up by college.

The College of Engineering & Physical Sciences

If you’re interested in chemistry, computing and information science, mathematics, physics, or statistics, the Physical Sciences may be for you!  Explore non-living systems and uncover the underlying laws of nature with one of the following majors:

  • Chemical Physics*
  • Chemistry*
  • Mathematical Science
  • Nanoscience*
  • Physical Science
  • Physics*
  • Theoretical Physics

The College of Biological Science

Interested in living organisms and systems, from bacteria to mammals to complex ecosystems?  If so, you might belong in the College of Biological Science, where students and faculty strive to understand and improve life.  This department offers the following majors:

  • Animal Biology
  • Biochemistry*
  • Biodiversity
  • Biological and Pharmaceutical Chemistry
  • Biological Science
  • Biological and Medical Physics
  • Bio-Medical Science
  • Biomedical Toxicology*
  • Environmental Biology
  • Environmental Geomatics
  • Food Science*
  • Human Kinetics
  • Marine & Freshwater Biology*
  • Microbiology*
  • Molecular Biology and Genetics*
  • Neuroscience
  • Nutritional and Nutraceutical Sciences
  • Plant Science*
  • Wildlife Biology and Conservation*
  • Zoology

* indicates that a major is offered as both a regular program and with a co-op option.

Common First Year

All BSc students across begin their studies with the same courses in their first year. Take this opportunity to discover a range of scientific fields beyond what you may have been exposed to in high school. And if you realize that you want  to change your major after your first year, it’s usually pretty easy since everyone has the same common core of knowledge.

Admission Requirements

One important thing to note if you’re considering applying to the BSc at U of G is that our biological and physical science majors have different requirements for admission. If you’re applying from a Canadian high school, we suggest you take a look at pages 79 -80 of the 2022 viewbook for all the details.  International applicants can check out pages 22-23 of our 2022 international viewbook.

Get the scoop about Science!

We could go on and on about this program (in fact, we have! Check out this article we published a few years ago about BSc), but we figured you might be interested in hearing about the highlights of the BSc program from someone who’s currently IN the program. We’re currently running a spotlight on the Bachelor of Science program on Instagram – be sure to check out the schedule for upcoming lives, or re-watch those events on IGTV.
