Did you miss last week’s Applied Science IG Lives? Here’s a recap of what you missed!

Our Bachelor of Applied Science degree (BASc) focuses on understanding human development and behavior and how to use that knowledge to improve life. Whichever program you choose within BASc, you will be prepared to stand out and succeed in a wide variety of industries.

Here are some interesting facts about the BASc program:

Three Distinct Majors

Choose the Applied Science  major to ensure you are acquiring knowledge in the field that you are passionate about.

Prepare for Your Future

The different programs may vary in material, but they all share a similar goal of preparing you for your future career. The programs are specifically tailored to teach you the skills and give you the opportunities you need to work as a registered dietitian, counselling or social work, fitness consulting, a food policy analyst and more! Also, while we do not have teacher’s college at the U of G, the Child Studies program is a recommended program for those who want to go to teacher’s college.

Hands-On Experience

To succeed in a career, we believe that students must learn by doing. That is why the BASc degree has so many experiential learning opportunities. Both Child Studies and Family Studies and Human Development offer practicums in the later years which will allow you to work directly with children, adolescents and/or adults depending on your area of interest.

As an Applied Human Nutrition student you have the option to add an Area of Emphasis in dietetics if you are interested in a career as a registered dietitian. This dietetic education program is an accredited program recognized by the Partnership for Dietetic Education and Practice (PDEP) and prepares students to register with a provincial dietetics regulatory body.

Along with the three distinct programs, the Bachelor of Applied Science degree also offers more than 56 minors that you can choose from. This will allow you to graduate with a more unique and specific degree and set of skills that will set you apart from the rest.

Students Love This Program

BASc students are part of a unique and exciting degree at the U of G. One of our students Austin loved the real-world experience opportunities offered by the practicum courses.
