Incredible academic supports available to you all year long from the library

The McLaughlin Library may be the only library on campus – but it’s mighty! We know that the transition to university learning can be a challenge and that’s why we are reaching out to let you know, we’re here for you!

The library isn’t just a place to come and study (although we have lots of great spaces), it’s also a place that you can receive the academic support you need throughout your time at U of G. This post is going to outline some of what we have to offer – let’s get started…

Study Space

The library’s physical space is made up of 7 floors – each with its own focus and vibe. Trust us, you’ll have a favourite soon enough. Everyone has a different study style, and for that reason the library has a mix of group and quiet floors so that you find the most effective environment for you to study in. Throughout the floors, you’ll find individual study carrels and desks, window seating, comfy chairs, and standing desks for when your legs need a stretch.

Appointments, Workshops, Online Resources

Remember earlier when we mentioned we have academic support available to you? We weren’t just saying that! The library is home to an amazing group of services here to support your every need as you venture on your academic journey. Each semester, you can book appointments with a variety of specialists and peer helpers (other U of G students who work with us to provide some of our services – giving you the opportunity to meet with someone close to your age who can give really awesome advice). We also host a plethora of workshops every semester focused on making your academic experience the best one possible.

Online Resources

If you’re the type of person who likes to learn on your own – we have things for you, too! We have hundreds of how-to guides that can support you with things like controlling procrastination, finding eBooks, finding market research, writing a university essay, and more! Lots of these guides also include short how-to videos and handouts, or link to other guides you may find helpful.
