Fact Fridays – Episode 10: Breaking Down our Admission Rounds

Posted: Thursday, February 8, 2018 - 16:20

Our first official round of offers is OUT Future Gryphons; congrats if you received one! We still have two more rounds to come, so don’t worry if you haven’t received an offer yet. To help ease your minds, we’re breaking down our admission plan.

Fact #1: Our FIRST ROUND of offers just went out this week

Here is what we looked at in this round:

  • Your top 6 completed 4U/M courses (including required courses)
  • A combination of both 3U/M and 4U/M courses (including required) IF you haven’t completed 6 4U/M courses
  • Your top 5 3U/M courses (including pre-requisites) ONLY IF you haven’t completed any 4U/M courses
  • Averages that typically exceed the cutoff

Fact #2: Our SECOND ROUND of offers will go out in early March to mid-April

  • What are we looking for in this round?
  • Your top completed 4U/M courses (including required courses)
  • A combination of 3U/M courses and 4U/M courses (including required)
  • Averages typically at the top range of the cutoff

NOTE: If you don’t receive an offer in this second round, MAKE SURE you complete a Student Profile Form by May 1. We encourage all applicants to complete the SPF.

Fact #3: Our THIRD ROUND of offers will go out in late April to mid-May

  • What are we looking at in this final round?
  • Your top 4U/M completed courses, including the required courses
  • Averages within the cutoff range.

NOTE: We will consider your application and review your SPF in this round if your average is below the estimated cut-off (within 5% of the cut-off, but over 75%).

Fact #4: Cutoffs are Estimates

Estimated cut-off ranges are based on the admission averages from the previous three years of admitted students

Fact #5: Think Cumulative!

We will not look at individual course grades; just the cumulative average of your top 6 courses including pre-requisites.

Fact #6: We Give Alternate Offers

You may get an Alternate Offer in rounds 2 or 3 if you applied to Bio-Medical Science, Human Kinetics, Criminal Justice & Public Policy or Co-op.

An Alternate Offer is when you don’t meet the requirements to your program of choice (those listed above), and are offered admission into an alternative (different) program.

For example, if you don’t meet the cut-off for Bio-Medical Science, we will offer you entry into the general Biological Sciences program.

There you have it friends; you now know approximately when you can expect to see an offer from the U of G. In the meantime, check out our article on what to do while waiting for an offer and take the next step toward #FutureGryphon status.
