3. How to get more support for this chatroom.
4. Why can't I copy and paste?
5. Download the latest version of Java

Minimum Requirements:

This chat service requires that you have "Javascript" and "Java Plug-in" installed and running on your computer.

You must also have one of following browsers installed:

Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 and above OR
Netscape Navigator 4.77 and above.

Note: The most current versions of Firefox, Opera and Safari may also work but, these browsers have not been extensively tested and are not supported at this time. We strongly suggest you test your browser before the session runs.

When I try to connect, I am getting an Access Denied error

If you are having trouble connecting and are receiving the following error: Err U483. Access Denied. The user name you entered is not permitted , please note that your username is not your email address, and should not contain any special characters. Choose an appropriate screen name that you would like to appear as in the chat!

Note: user names are unique, so if you still can't connect, chances are someone else may have chosen the name you are trying to use. Try another name.

If that isn't working for you, see the Contact Technical Support section below.

Contact Technical Support

If you are still having trouble with the chat room client Java applet, please explain the problem you are experiencing in an email to chatroomsupport@registrar.uoguelph.ca .

If you leave your telephone number in your email, we may contact you directly during a live chat session.

Why can't I copy and paste?

This chat functionality is a Java application, and a main advantage in using a Java chat room is its inherent security. The inability to use the right-click Copy option within the applet is actually a security feature built into an applet itself. As such, you simply need to use the keyboard commands for copy (Ctrl-C) and paste (Ctrl-V) within a Java window instead of the right-click options. If you are having an issue with highlighting text and copying text using the Ctrl-C command or pasting text using the Ctrl-V command, you may have to check whether you have the latest version of Java installed.
