Our curriculum will provide you with skills needed to work in fields such as medical physics, astronomy, nanotechnology, sound engineering, academia, and others.

 Gain Specialized Physics Lab Experience

With an emphasis on hands-on lab work, the physics major covers the fundamentals of mechanics, electromagnetism, and quantum physics, grounding students in foundational physics while preparing you for more specialized study in upper years.

 Learn From Physics Experts

The major builds upon nationally recognized expertise in teaching and research, with many of our Physics faculty members having received both national and international awards and collaborated with off-campus research institutions including; CSA/NASA, the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, and the Canadian Light Source.

My specific major is a unique specialization that allows me to bridge my areas of interest of Biology, Math, and Physics. I chose this program because it gives me a chance to explore many different fields of science and research with an emphasis on physics and its foundations. There are many research opportunities available for physics students here at the University of Guelph as well as externally, to provide hands on experience in things like lab settings, outreach and science communication, computing, or data analysis. The physics department as a whole has an amazing community and talented professors/ researchers that make me happy to be a part of it.

Throughout the university search process, I felt most welcomed by the University of Guelph. In any kind of encounter, whether it was at open houses, tours, pamphlets or presentations, I always liked how U of G reps were really enthusiastic and I loved the sense of hospitality that they provided. They made me feel at home so I knew the transition between high school and first year would be easy. My favourite thing about the University of Guelph is the sense of community. In a traditional school year, there are lots of events and gatherings that bring the students together to celebrate events and socialize. Attending sporting events, getting lunch, studying and doing just about anything with university friends makes the experience most special.
