Why Child Studies?

Consider the ways children learn, develop and grow from psychological, physiological and social perspectives within family contexts and explore ways of working with children in diverse and inclusive settings.

Students in the CSTU program may also be interested in studying Sociology, Psychology, a degree in Bachelor of Arts and Sciences, or other majors.

How Children Learn, Develop and Grow

 Learn to Work with Children

How do children learn? How does family life influence the development of children? Answer these questions and more as you seek to understand children’s development an explore ways to work with them in diverse and inclusive settings.

 Go Beyond the Classroom

Students gain both theoretical knowledge and applied skills through course work and guaranteed practicum placements, completing over 500 hours of practical experience working with children in a variety of settings. Graduates of the Child Studies major are eligible to apply for membership in the College of Early Childhood Educators (ECE).

 Prepare For Graduate Program Admission

You are prepared for admission to many graduate programs such as counselling or social work, occupational therapy, speech language pathology and teacher education programs. Nipissing University reserves space for qualified U of G Child Studies graduates in their Primary/Junior Bachelor of Education Program.

What Can You Do with a Degree in Child Studies?

Graduates from the Child Studies degree at the University of Guelph are eligible to apply for membership in the College of Early Childhood Educators in order to become an ECE.
