The secondary school graduation certificate which would admit a student to an internationally recognized university in their home country is normally acceptable for admission to the University of Guelph.

Bermuda

Bolivia

Excellent results (5.5/7 or 75/100).

Botswana

Brazil

Brazil Certificado de Conclusao de Ensino Medio (minimum 7.5) + Vestibular (University Entrance Exam) or Middle Education National or SAT I and SAT II subject tests.

Cameroon

Caribbean

Students must complete the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) Diploma with a minimum of 6 individual subjects with at least two 2-Unit courses at the CAPE Level. Other subjects may be presented at the CSEC (CXC) Level. Predicted CAPE Level grades of 1 or 2 are required for admission consideration. Students going into Science or Engineering are encouraged to take a minimum of two 2-Unit CAPE Level subjects in Science and/or Mathematics. 

Transfer credit may be granted for 2-Unit courses at the Advanced Level with grades of 1, 2, or 3. Please note that Caribbean Studies and Communications Studies can not be used for admission.

China

1. Students progressing through Upper Middle School: the Academic Proficiency Test (APT)/HuiKao from CHESICC-Parchment Portal Service with a minimum of 5 relevant required subjects for the degree and major, along with school documents for grades 10, 11, and first semester Grade 12 are required. Final official Upper Middle School Graduation Certificate will be required in August from the CHESICC-Parchment Portal Service.

2. Students who finished high school in a previous year are required to submit the Upper Middle School Graduation Certificate and the Chinese National University Entrance Examinations (NCEE) including a minimum of 5 relevant required subjects. All documents and English translations must be sent directly to Admission Services through CHESICC-Parchment Portal Service. In the absence of NCEE, SAT I and SAT II subject tests including all required subjects specific to your degree and major may be submitted for admission consideration.

Germany

Reifezeugnis/Abitur/Zeugnis der Allgemeinen Hochschulreife.

Ghana

West African Examinations Council (WAEC) exam results, with a minimum B3 on predicted grades and a scratch card for confirmation required for finals.

Greece

Apolytirio Genikou Lykeiou (Upper Secondary Leaving Certificate), with a minimum of 16.1.

First year completed at a recognized university.

Hong Kong

Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) with a combination of 4 and 5. Predicted school marks must be presented on a 5-point scale.

India

Completion of a Class 12 State Board Certificate in the required academic stream with strong First Division standing.

For example:

  • Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) OR Indian School Certificate (ISC)
  • Higher Secondary Certificate (ISC) OR
  • Punjab School Education Board (PSEB)

For early admission decisions, students may submit verified 10th standard board results accompanied by anticipated Class 12 grades listed by subject from the school, with a minimum aver-age of 80%. Completion of Class 12 Board Exam Certificate with strong First Division standing is required in May/June. All information required by the board to verify your Class 10 and 12 certificates. Students wishing to pursue a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Commerce who do not have 12th Standard Math please register and complete an www.ilc.org MHF4U Math for Biological Science or Commerce and MCV4U Math for Physical Science degrees with a minimum 75-80% depending on degree/major. Final Indian curriculum graduating documents must be submitted to Admission Services from the corresponding board. When possible, Admission Services will verify scanned finals online that can be emailed to intdocs@uoguelph.ca.

Applicants from Bahrain, Jordan, Palestine, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, and Yemen must present the National Secondary School Education/Leaving Certificate (Tawjihiyah) with very good/excellent results overall and in appropriate subjects.

Students from Kuwait should present the Shahad-al-thanawia-al-a-a'ama (General Secondary School Certificate) with excellent results and those from UAE, the Secondary School Certificate (Shahadat Al-Thanawiya Al-Amma). Netherlands

VWO (Voorbereidend Wetenschappelijk Onderwijs) Diploma with a minimum 7/10.

New Zealand

National Certificate of Educational Achievement Level 3 and University Entrance Standard inclusive of approved subjects. Grades required for admission will vary by program, but based on the New Zealand grading scale, the minimum level for admission consideration is “Merit.”

Nigeria

Admission Requirements by Curriculum

NOTE: AP is not a standalone curriculum however if you will graduate with your home country or another accredited curriculum you may use your AP examination results from the College Board as transfer credits.

If you have completed Advanced Placement Final Examinations with a minimum grade of 4, you will be eligible to receive university-specific transfer credits, where applicable, to a maximum of 2.00 credits. You may request a change to unspecified credit on an individual basis within the first 30 days of your first semester.

  • Academic Proficiency Test examination results (Huikao) with a minimum of 80/100 including required subjects.
  • NCEE (Gaokao) results including required subjects with a minimum of approximately 550 (in the absence of NCEE students may submit SAT and SATII results. See below for information). 
  • Both Gaokao and Huikao results must be verified by the China Higher Education Student Information & Career Center (CHESICC) using the CHESICC-Parchment Portal Service. Visit the CHESICC website for instructions.

SAT I and SAT II Subject Tests

For students who graduated in previous years without an NCEE you may substitute this by using a combination of SAT and SATII Subject Test, SAT Critical Reading and Math with a combined minimum of 1100 and SAT II Subject tests with an approximate minimum of 550 per subject. The specific SAT II Subject Tests required depend upon the intended field of study:

  • Biological Sciences: Math (level 2), Biology (either E or M) and Chemistry
  • Physical Sciences: Math (level 2), Physics and Chemistry
  • Arts/Humanities/Social Sciences: Literature, and two additional humanities or social science type courses (e.g. World History, French, etc.)
  • Commerce: Math (level 2) plus two additional SAT's.

Additional Documentation

For students applying to the Bachelor of Landscape Architecture, additional documentation is required. Visit the Admission Services website for information.

Completed European Baccalaureate Diploma including prerequisite required exam with a minimum overall average of 75-80%. English must be a minimum of L1 or L2. Students with English as L2 are expected to write an English Proficiency exam.

Students applying with a French Baccalaureate should present a minimum overall score of 12 out of 20. Specific subject prerequisites should be completed at the highest co-efficient level.

Having the minimum score does not guarantee admission.

If you are applying with an IB Diploma from outside of Canada, you should present a minimum score of 28. Many programs will require a higher score for admission consideration. Reported bonus points from TOK and EE will be taken into consideration.

Having the minimum score does not guarantee admission.

You should complete the Diploma with 6 subjects: 3 Higher Level and 3 Standard Level. You should also include specific subject requirements for the program you are applying to among your Standard and Higher Level courses. If you are currently completing the IB Diploma, you will be considered for admission consideration based upon predicted IB scores. You should ensure that your anticipated scores are submitted using the 7 point scale.

Upon receipt of official final results from the IBO, we will assign specific transfer credits, where applicable, to a maximum of 2.0 credits for grades of 5 or better on Higher Level courses where you have been awarded the IB Diploma or DP Course. You may request a change to unspecified credit on an individual basis within the first 30 days of your first semester.

Note: Math Studies/Standard Level Applications and Interpretations are not an acceptable prerequisite for programs that require Grade 12 Advanced Functions, Calculus or equivalent. Students who do not complete the full IB Diploma must meet admission standards from an accredited high school graduating curriculum.

No direct admission from secondary school. A minimum of two years of a university undergraduate degree program is required for admission consideration. Students preparing for admission to the DVM program should take high school Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Advanced Math or Calculus

Required Courses

Turfgrass Management: Admission is determined by a combination of your academic average and faculty evaluation of the Background Information Form (BIF). The BIF can be found at admission.uoguelph.ca/suppforms.

Note: Completion of Grade 11 or 12 Math, Biology and Chemistry at the C, U or M level is recommended. Previous experience in the turfgrass industry is considered an asset.
